THE BOX
"THE BOX" is a project based on interaction and communication between
artists around the Mediterranean during the "Odyssee 2003" of the ship

- Ingo Dee, born in Germany
- Fotini Kariotaki, born in Greece
- Ruud Matthes, born in the Netherlands
- Takahiko Suzuki, born in Japan

The starting point is Thessaloniki, Greece where "THE BOX" will go on board
and will travel with the ship until its final destination, the Greek island of Ithaki
where it will come back to the artists who have initiated the project.
"THE BOX" is a cube (65x65x65cm) made out of metal and plexiglas with four
fluorescent lights placed on every side of the bottom. Inside the box are four
cardboard boxes (27x27x58cm) each of which carries the project of one of the
four "Thessaloniki/ initiating artists".

During the inauguration of the project on June 7, 2003 "THE BOX" will be
placed on board of the Constanta in the presence of the artists. Each artist is
going to present his/her project to the public and place the objects and the
instructions into one of the four cardboard boxes. Then "THE BOX" will be
closed and left on board to travel on its own.
In each harbour four (local) artists will open "THE BOX" on the day of the
arrival of the ship. After reflecting on the instructions and the inspection of the
content they should respond to the project until the ship leaves the harbour.
It is their choice whether to perform in public or not.
